AMIGO2/ALIVIN-1 is a member of a small family of type I membrane proteins containing six leucine rich repeats (LRR), one immunoglobulin domain and cysteine rich LLR -NH2 and -COOH domains. In assays a substrate bound form of AMIGO2 promoted prominent neurite extension and inhibited fasciculation of neurites. A homophilic and heterophilic binding mechanism exists between members of the AMIGO family. AMIGOs are thought to be novel cell adhesion molecules expressed on fiber tracts of neuronal tissues that participate in their formation.
