IgG4 is the least abundant subclass of Immunoglobulin G, but levels of IgG4 can grow to constitute a majority of IgG after prolonged exposure to an allergen. As part of the allergic immune response, IgG4 plays an anti-inflammatory role and offers protection by functioning as a blocking antibody (PMID 26497518, PMID 26892721).
